George Town, Penang — Mentari Consult office district

◈ Company

Advisory work that stays
close to the terrain.

Mentari Consult was established to offer Malaysian organisations considered, plainly written cloud advisory — without the overhead of a large consulting firm or the limitations of a vendor-tied partner.

◈ Our Story

How Mentari Consult came to be.

Mentari Consult was founded in George Town, Penang, after its principals spent several years working inside cloud migration projects — first as internal leads, later as advisors at larger practices. What they found, repeatedly, was that the hardest part of any cloud move was not the technology. It was the lack of a clear, written account of the organisation's actual starting position.

Most organisations commission a migration before they have examined whether their workloads are suited to it, and before they have considered the regulatory constraints that apply to their data. The result is often a project that stalls, costs more than expected, or produces an architecture that the team cannot comfortably operate.

The work Mentari Consult does is preparatory rather than executive. We help leadership and technical teams understand what they are deciding — clearly enough to decide it well. We write our findings in plain language. We name the risks that others prefer to leave unspoken.

The practice is small by design. Engagements are led personally rather than delegated to junior staff. When you work with Mentari Consult, the people who attend the discovery sessions are the same people who write the outputs.

We are based in George Town, Penang, but work with organisations across peninsular Malaysia and East Malaysia. Most of our clients operate in professional services, financial services, manufacturing, and the public sector — organisations with significant on-premise estates that have begun to reconsider their infrastructure arrangements.

Our mission is simple: to give organisations considering a cloud move a more complete picture of what is in front of them, before they commit to a direction they may need to revise later.

◈ The Team

The people who conduct the engagements.

RZ

Razif Zainudin

Principal Advisor

Fourteen years working on infrastructure transitions across the financial and manufacturing sectors in Malaysia. Razif leads readiness and architecture engagements, with particular attention to sovereignty and regulatory compliance under Malaysian law.

SA

Suraya Ahmad

Cloud Architecture Analyst

Suraya focuses on multi-cloud architecture options and vendor commercial comparisons. She joined Mentari Consult after a period working within the AWS partner ecosystem and brings a practical understanding of how vendor commitments translate to operational cost.

LK

Lim Kah Wai

Migration Planning Lead

Kah Wai designs and facilitates the Migration Path Workshop. He has a background in programme management and has led dependency mapping exercises across organisations with complex legacy estates in Penang and Kuala Lumpur.

◈ Working Standards

The standards that govern our work.

Confidentiality by default

A mutual non-disclosure agreement is signed before any discovery work begins. Client estate information, system architecture and commercial data are not shared or referenced outside the engagement.

Vendor neutrality

Mentari Consult holds no referral, reseller or commercial arrangement with any cloud provider. All advisory work is conducted on the client's criteria alone.

Written deliverables only

Every engagement produces a written document. We do not deliver verbal briefings without an accompanying written summary that the client may retain and share internally.

PDPA compliance awareness

Our work explicitly addresses the Personal Data Protection Act obligations relevant to cloud data handling and cross-border data transfer within the Malaysian regulatory context.

Senior-led engagements

Engagements are led by the principals named in our team, not delegated to junior staff. The person who meets your leadership team is the person who writes the advisory output.

Fixed scope, no scope creep

Each engagement is contracted with a defined scope. Work beyond that scope is quoted separately. There is no provision for scope expansion without a written agreement.

◈ Our Approach

What we believe about cloud advisory work.

Cloud migration is not a technical problem with a technical solution. It is an organisational decision with technical implications. The organisations that navigate it well are those that examine their starting position carefully — their workload characteristics, their data obligations, their team's actual capabilities — before committing to a direction.

Mentari Consult's advisory practice is built around this conviction. Our readiness assessments do not begin with a cloud provider in mind. Our architecture advisory does not end with a vendor recommendation until the client's own criteria have been documented and tested. Our migration workshops do not produce a calendar until the dependencies between phases are understood by all the teams that will need to act on it.

We work in English and Bahasa Malaysia. We are familiar with the regulatory environment that applies to Malaysian organisations handling personal data, financial records, and sector-specific regulated information. We understand the talent constraints that affect cloud operations in Penang and Kuala Lumpur, and we factor those constraints into our recommendations.

The advisory landscape in Malaysia has expanded significantly as cloud infrastructure has matured. Organisations now have more choices than ever — and more complexity to navigate. Mentari Consult exists to help organisations move through that complexity with their eyes open, at a pace that suits their actual conditions rather than a vendor's sales calendar.
